The Iran Hostage Crisis of 1979 was a tragic, yet eye opening, event for all involved. The hostage crisis conflict between Iranian militants and America diplomats started during a CIA run coup in 1953 and would end after 53 American hostages were released after 444 days and over a year of failed attempts to compromise. The CIA operation in 1953 installed the Shah as the head of the Iranian government. This event would sway Iranian public opinion about America toward a position of hatred and distrust.

In November of 1979 angry Iranian students, mainly from Tehran University, stormed the gates of the American Embassy trying to get President Carter to reject  the Shah's appeal to enter the U.S. for medical treatment. The students hoped that the hostage's ordeal would all be over quickly, but this was not to be. After 444 days of holding the hostages, a failed rescue attempt, and long negotiations, the prisoners were finally released. However, the conflict and the following compromise will not be forgotten by either country for a very long time.
